→ Approved devices

Only plug & play devices (micro-inverters and home batteries) that have been homologated by Synergrid (association of Belgian electricity and gas grid operators) are suitable for connection to the grid. 'Sustix' only offers devices that have been homologated and that are therefore fully compliant with Belgian and European standards.

FLANDERS

You have a digital meter ▪ the total power of your entire installation is < 800 W: no registration or notification obligation (registration) with Fluvius ▪ the total power of your entire installation is > 800 W: registration with Fluvius is mandatory within 30 days of commissioning (https://www.fluvius.be/nl/in-de-kijker/plug-en-play-toestellen)

You have an electromechanical (analogue) meter ▪ the total power of your entire installation is < 800 W: registration with Fluvius is mandatory within 30 days of commissioning (https://www.fluvius.be/nl/in-de-kijker/plug-en-play-toestellen ▪ the total power of your entire installation is > 800 W: registration with Fluvius is mandatory within 30 days of commissioning (https://www.fluvius.be/nl/in-de-kijker/plug-en-play-toestellen. A digital meter will then be installed. Pending this replacement, a prosumer tariff will be applied.

BRUSSELS AND WALLONIA

Registration with Fluvius is mandatory for all capacities (< 800 W or > 800 W) within 30 days of commissioning (https://www.fluvius.be/nl/in-de-kijker/plug-en-play-toestellen

→ Maximum power

In Belgium there is no maximum permitted capacity. In Belgium you can therefore install more than 1, 2 or 3 plug & play panels. However, it is true that, whatever the total capacity of your plug & play solar panel installation, only a maximum of 800 Watt can be injected into your home network. This maximum capacity of 800 W is automatically regulated by the micro-inverter(s) or home batteries to which your solar panels are connected. The approved devices are manufactured and configured in this way.

LEGAL FRAMEWORK

Belgian regulations aim to facilitate the installation of plug & play systems, while maintaining safety for users and compatibility with the electricity grid. Below is an overview of the rules in force at the time of publication of this guide:

Synergrid homologation: manufacturers must have the inverters of plug & play systems approved according to technical regulation C10/26. This step confirms that the device meets the safety requirements and is suitable for connection to the grid.

Conformity with European standards, including the CE marking and the EU Declaration of Conformity. This proves that the product complies with the European directives on safety and electromagnetic compatibility.

Conformity with the General Regulations on Electrical Installations (AREI), which considers these systems as mobile “products”. They therefore do not require inspection before use. However, as a user, you remain responsible for the safety of your electrical installation. You must choose a device that complies with the standards and have your electrical installation adapted if necessary.

Urban planning regulations and other provisions: the same rules as for classical

installations apply. For example: for a solar kit on a balcony it is

It is advisable to contact the urban development department of your municipality and the association of co-owners.

Is there a maximum allowable power? At the time of writing there is no

legally established asset limit in Belgium. In Flanders, however, a limit of

800 W discussed, based on the recommendation of the European Commission – which is however not binding.

Registration of the plug & play device with the distribution network operator (DSO): in

In Flanders, the registration obligations for plug & play systems at Fluvius are

completed in the course of April 2025. If the power of your total installation is ≥ 800 W,

registration is required within 30 days after commissioning. If you add a plug &

play system to an already registered installation, then you are obliged to do so

to be reported as soon as the total power exceeds 800 W. For a < 800 W

device it depends on what type of electricity meter you have at home. If you have a

End of life: According to Belgian regulations on the take-back obligation for electrical and electronic equipment, manufacturers, importers or distributors are responsible for collecting discarded equipment and ensuring the circular processing of their components (recycling, reuse, etc.). For solar panels this is done via PV Cycle Belgium, for batteries via Bebat.

Plug & play systems are easy to use, but subject to clear regulations. For correct information, you can contact the competent authorities such as Synergrid, the energy regulators or your regional administration.
